I have heard of crystals forming in the battery. Which leads to "memory effect" Is it true? If so, will it affect the performance of the battery?
Yes it is true - but only in NiCd battery packs. The batteries we are talking about here are all NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries and not subject to crystal formation. Crystals do form inside the older NiCd electrodes of a battery under improper charging conditions like partial, repeated, or over charging. Poor maintenance of the battery is also one of the reasons for crystalline growth. These crystals damage the separator by increasing the internal resistance of the battery. The battery life ends up being reduced because of this condition. But remember this only applies to NiCd batteries not the HHR-4DPA Battery Upgrade we are talking about here.
Can I charge the Panasonic HHR-4DPA Cordless Phone Battery along with batteries from other brands?
Yes. You can put any brand of NiMH batteries together in a NiMH charger. It is best not to mix old and new batteries because your capacity is only as strong as the weakest link - the battery with the lowest capacity. So we recommend changing the entire set out at the same time to make it simple to track. But make sure you do not charge a NiCd and NiMH battery together.
My friend told me that most NiMH batteries lose their capacity over time. Is it true?
Yes, NiMH batteries tend to lose about 10 to 15 percent of the mAh capacity in the first 400 charges cycles. Most NiMH batteries do not perform well as they did initially. You don’t have to worry. It is perfectly normal. Nevertheless, the performance of any battery depends upon proper battery maintenance and quality of the charger.
My cordless phone NiMH battery is no longer efficient. Are there any secrets to extending battery life?
No, not really. There is just no thing as a perpetual motion machine - especially when it comes to batteries. Batteries reach the end of their life-cycle when the chemicals inside the packs are depleted by the number of charge and discharge cycles they have gone through uses up all the chemicals. It is therefore wise to invest in the highest quality batteries you can find. We offer the highest performing NiMH battery available from Energizer as an upgrade to your current Panasonic HHR 4-DPA Rechargeable Battery.
What is the best way to recylde the old HHR-4DPA battery packs I have?
Usually, your local hardware store or any of those "big box" hardware or electronics store have a place to turn in used batteries near the counter for recycling. If you can't find one locally and your city does not offer hazardous waste pick-up, you can send the battery packs off to us and we will recycle them for you at no charge. You just have to pay the postage to get the batteries to us.
